Daryl Adams received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois/Urbana, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He augmented his studies by traveling overseas to attend the Ecole Nacionale des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France, and went on to receive significant academic credentials including University of Illinois Paris Prize finalist, the Olaf Fjelde and Alfred Epstein Awards for architectural design, and the Ralph S. and Jennie M. Long Traveling Scholarship.
In 1972, Daryl joined the City of Chicago Bureau of Architecture as a Project Designer and was ultimately made Director of Architectural Design. During his 16-year tenure with the City of Chicago, he was responsible for the design of a wide-ranging list of municipal structures. In a period when the Bureau was widely recognized for its professionalism, his work received numerous design recognitions and awards, including both local and national American Institute of Architects Awards, architectural magazine awards and features in national publications. Notably, several of his projects during the 1970s and 1980s received design awards for Energy Conservation and Historic Preservation.
In 1988, Daryl made the decision to leave the public sector and joined John Chipman, his former college roommate, in private practice. The name change to Chipman Adams Ltd. in 1990 enhanced the firm’s burgeoning national expansion as Daryl added his own special expertise in architectural design.
Registered as a licensed architect throughout the United States, Daryl is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and holds membership with the American Institute of Architects.
