Principals
JOHN A. CHIPMAN, AIA, NCARB As a Principal, John A. Chipman brings a diverse background to the Park Ridge design firm. Earning a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois, Mr. Chipman reinforced his studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France, and at the Ecole Nacionale d'Art Decoratif de Nice, France. During his past professional assignments, Mr. Chipman resided overseas in the mid 1970s where he served as Vice President of an international architectural firm headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. As an international administrator for the firm, he was responsible for presentation work, design and production as well as site supervision on a number of international projects. Extensive international travel for both business and research has taken him throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Orient. Complementing his considerable background in architecture, Mr. Chipman possesses extensive experience in resort and retail planning and design. He is recognized nationally as an expert in the field and has published numerous articles, including a planning workbook for retailers that was distributed nationally and went into a second printing. Mr. Chipman also completed the Golf Clubhouse Programming, Planning and Design Seminar at Harvard Design School and possesses experience with an expanding clientele of Golf Clubs and Resorts. Nationally certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, he is a registered Architect in states throughout the country and maintains professional membership in the American Institute of Architects. In addition, Mr. Chipman has served on local City Councils with positions on the Planning and Zoning Board as well as the Building Board of Review. He assisted in formulating the Park Ridge, Illinois Appearance Commission and writing the City's Appearance Ordinance for building construction. After the Ordinance was adopted, Mr. Chipman was appointed to a six-year position as Chairman of the Appearance Commission.
DARYL ADAMS, AIA, NCARB Daryl Adams received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He augmented his studies by traveling overseas to attend the Ecole Nacionale des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France. His academic credentials include such achievements as Paris Prize finalist, the Olaf Fjelde and Alfred Epstein Awards for architectural design, and the Ralph S. and Jennie M. Long Traveling Scholarship. In 1972, he joined the City of Chicago Bureau of Architecture, where he was made Director of Architectural Design for all public works projects. During his tenure with the City of Chicago, Mr. Adams was responsible for the design of a wide-ranging list of municipal structures including police headquarters, fire stations, health centers, airport and mass transit facilities, libraries, museums and performing arts centers. His work has received numerous recognitions and awards, including both local and national American Institute of Architects Awards, architectural magazine awards and features in national publications. Several of his designs have received design awards for Energy Conservation and Historic Preservation. Mr. Adams joined Chipman Design Ltd. in 1988 as Vice President. In 1990, the firm underwent a name change to Chipman Adams Ltd. As a Principal, he oversees the operation of the firm along with John Chipman, adding his own special emphasis on architectural design. Mr. Adams attended the Harvard Design School Golf Clubhouse Programming, Planning and Design Seminar in Cambridge, furthering his design expertise on Chipman Adams ventures. Registered throughout the United States, Mr. Adams is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and holds membership with the American Institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Joe Defilippis, AIA, NCARB As a Principal, Joe Defilippis is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the 60 person firm. He possesses more than 25 years experience in the architecture, design and construction industry, and handles projects of all types, sizes and levels of complexity. In addition, his responsibilities include managing the accounts of several of the firm’s nationally based clients. Mr. Defilippis’ prior experience includes over 15 years with McDonald’s Corporation where, as the Corporate Architect with a staff of 20, he was responsible for non-traditional restaurant design, completing many of the corporation’s flagship locations throughout the United States. He was also responsible for the standard restaurant facility and held numerous positions within the Restaurant Development Team at the Home Office. Graduating with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Mr. Defilippis earned a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree, and is currently completing his MBA. Certified by The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, he holds professional membership in the American Institute of Architects, and is licensed to practice architecture in 49 states and the District of Columbia. |
